what we believe

At New Heights Christian Church we believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior is essential. We believe in baptism by immersion following in the steps of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God:

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

The Father:

Being a co-equal with the Son and the Holy Spirit, The Father is one of three distinct personalities that the Bible explains to us about who God is. The Father is described as the creator of all things, the giver of all good things, the one who sent the Son into the world, and the spiritual Father of all believers.

1 Corinthians 8:6; John 1:14, 14:12-13; James 1:17; Matthew 5:45, 6:6, 6:25-26; Romans 8:15

The Son (Jesus Christ):

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return to earth someday to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4:

Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

The Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Jesus. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His influence daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

The Bible:

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160; 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

Baptism:

Baptism serves many purposes in the life of a Christian. It is, firstly, an act of obedience to God and a public confession of one’s faith in his son, Jesus Christ. Through the process of our confession of faith, repentance and baptism, we are forgiven of our sins. Through this process we also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and are welcomed into God’s family as sons and daughters of God. Lastly, baptism represents a spiritual death and resurrection, a dying to our sinful self and being raised a new creation in Christ. Through immersion we identify with Jesus by symbolically reenacting his death, burial and resurrection.

1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:26-4:7; Acts 2:38; Matthew 3:11-17; Romans 6:3

Eternity:

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are literal places of eternal existence.

John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9
